Job Responsibilities

The research project will focus on developing non-flammable fluorine-free electrolytes and investigating their safety aspects in sodium-ion batteries. The project will include electrolyte preparation, electrochemical testing, thermal characterization, and gas analysis of battery materials and cells.

The researcher is expected to conduct high-quality research with the aim of disseminating resulting work through high-impact peer-reviewed journals or at national and international conferences. Strong collaboration with colleagues within the Department of Chemistry Ångström and other project partners (RISE, FOI, and Altris AB) is included. In particular, thermal safety will be studied with FOI and gas analysis with RISE.

Qualifications

A PhD or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.

Experience with liquid electrolytes, assembly of battery cells, working with glove boxes, electrochemical testing (galvanostatic cycling), and ex situ characterization of electrodes after cycling is essential.

The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific competence. The quality of the individual scientific work is given more weight than the quantity of publications. The candidate should have good skills in written and spoken English.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and competence complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and how they can contribute to its future development.

Desirable/meritorious

Experience with sodium-ion batteries, electrolyte additives and interfaces, polymer chemistry, and other characterization techniques (XPS, XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA-MS) is desirable.
